In an outpatient program, a client completes a prescribed series of visits to the clinic in order to receive treatment, usually consisting of counseling and, sometimes, medications to manage cravings. Outpatient programs allow a person to receive treatment while still attending work, school, meetings or other daily life activities during the treatment period. Some inpatient programs also offer outpatient services as an initial treatment option, or as ongoing care following an inpatient stay.

Inpatient Vs. Outpatient

Outpatient treatment works best for people whose alcohol problems are less severe or for those who have been through an inpatient program. It is usually less costly than inpatient treatment.

People who wish to abstain from alcohol and who need a comprehensive approach to treatment that includes multiple techniques, administered on an outpatient basis.

Some insurance plans will partially pay for rehab programs. Insurance coverages can vary widely, so it is important to check your insurance plan before you enroll in a program. Getting Started with Pharmaceutical Treatment or Counseling

If you don’t have insurance or if your insurance doesn’t cover inpatient treatment, some facilities offer payment plans, allow people to finance their stay, or may offer services on a sliding scale.
